FAQs
Why resurface your bathtub or countertop?
It is a cost effective alternative to replacing your bathtub or countertop. A damaged, worn out, or out-dated bathtub or countertop can be resurfaced in one day and can be used again after 24-48 hours.
So why not replace the bathtub?
Replacing a bathtub or countertop is a major renovation project involving plumbers, drywallers, tile installers or yourself spending much time and money on the project.
How much does it cost?
Bathtub reglazing starts at $395 for a standard 5" bathtub. Reglazing a bathtub and tile area or bathtub surround starts at $795. Countertop resurfacing starts at $20 per square foot.
Will you resilicone my bathtub or tile?
The silicone on the bathtub area is best done after the reglazed bathtub has cured for 48 hours. Most home owners are confident in reapplying this silicone after.
Do I need to clean my bathtub and/or tile before I have my surfaces refinished?
We appreciate a preliminary cleaning of the surface we are resurfacing. Please remove shampoo bottles, soap, etc or clean off the countertop surface before our technician arrives. We then clean the surface with our special cleaners in order to properly prepare for the application of our coating.
Should I remove my overflow valve or any other fixtures in my bathtub/surround?
We will cover and protect areas including the overflow valve, faucet and drain cap, protecting it from any finish. Materials used to "mask" can be removed after the refinishing is complete leaving masked areas undisturbed during the process. Some overflow's we will remove but it is up to the customer to put back on the next day. The overflow has one or two screws and is simple to do so. Let us know if putting the overflow back on would be a problem- You will need a screwdriver.
How long will the resurfacing process take?
A standard bathtub resurfacing takes 4-5 hours. Bathtub and tile surround areas take 6-8 hours. An average kitchen countertop takes 8 hours.
How many years can I expect to get out of my refinished bathtub and/or tile with proper care?
Resurfaced areas tend to last 10-12 years. We offer a 5 year Warranty on the resurfacing product against lifting, peeling, and adhesion.
Will my bathtub or countertop looked like it was painted?
Our coatings are applied using a HVLP sprayer which produces a smooth, glossy surface. The end result on a bathtub is similar to that of a new acrylic bathtub and the end result on a countertop is similar to a textured, laminate countertop.
Can I use a bath mat in my bathtub?
Do not use a bath-mat on any reglazed surfaces. This can damage your bathtub. We do offer our slip-resistant finish on the bottom on your bathtub that is a popular substitute.
Will you fix the chips and cracks in my bathtub or tile?
All chips and cracks can be repaired. We use an industrial fiberglass material before any resurfacing is done.
Can I be present in my home and not be disturbed by fumes?
Yes. Our low Voc products are made for refinishing in residential and commercial applications. Everyone's sensitivity to smells vary however most people find that the smell is minimal outside of the bathroom area. We use industrial fan systems to ventilate fumes from the work area.
How long after my bathtub, tile or countertop is refinished do I have to wait before using it?
Please allow 48 hours before using the resurfaced bathtub, tile or countertop area.
What should I do to prepare for my refinishing job?
Please remove loose objects from the bathtub work area, such as toothbrushes, bottles, paintings, shower curtains, soap and towels, so that they will not be exposed during the job. Shower doors need to be removed before resurfacing. Countertop areas need to be completely clear of all items.
What are your recommended cleaning agents?
Dishwashing liquids, Fantastik (with no bleach) and Simple Green are three of the most popular cleaning agents that we recommend. Do not use products containing bleach or chlorine. Do not use scrubbing pads or abrasive cleaners such as Vim, Ajax or Comet on any resurfaced areas.
Is there an extra charge for removing old paint from a previously refinished bathtub or countertop?
Yes, our standard charge is $195 for stripping old painted surfaces. The work generally takes an additional 2-3 hours.
How do I know if my surfaces to be refinished have been refinished previously?
Porcelain, fiberglass and cast iron surfaces do not peel after wear. Over time they may dull, stain, rust and/or become rough. If the surface has peeled, it is possible the surface has been refinished before.
There is a little surface dust stuck in the finish. What should I do?
Sometimes you may find tiny particles in the finish of the resurfacing. Surface dust is very common and almost unavoidable. There is always dust present in any room. There will be surface dust that will stick to the finish as it is curing. This is normal. Whatever you do, do not try to pick at it, as you may chip the finish. Most surface dust will wash or fall off in time. With normal cleaning and use, you will see dust begin to disappear on its own and/or settle into the finish naturally. Do not be alarmed by surface dust, your surfaces will gradually smooth with time!
